This piece reflects the simple yet profound life of the Badjaos, a tribe traditionally known for their sea-based lifestyle. Inspired by their deep connection to the ocean, where they build their boats and rely on the sea's bounties for survival. In today's world, this culture has been threatened. Many Badjaos struggle to find enough fish due to environmental challenges, forcing some to leave their traditional way of life behind and resort to begging on the streets. It is heartbreaking to witness a people who are meant to thrive in harmony with the sea, now facing such a difficult change. This painting serves as a reminder that badjaos aren’t supposed to beg in the streets. They are supposed to gain triumph in the sea. I aim to evoke a sense of empathy and awareness, urging viewers to respect and preserve our environment. It serves as a poignant reminder that our actions impact the natural world and the lives of those who depend on it for their very existence.
