Artist

Art has no boundaries because art is the product of the minds experiences and there are no limits to these experiences. Art satisfies my soul. Every piece brings a different kind of joy as I try to create art for its own intrinsic worth.

Joefin U. Jamalul is a local Tausug artist from Zamboanga City. He was born on June 12, 1989, in Mapun, Tawi-Tawi. Joefin or “Joeff” as most of his friends and acquaintances call him, holds a degree in BS Automotive Technology from Zamboanga City State Polytechnic College. His fascination with art started when he was still little, but his interest was cultivated in 2013 when he first witnessed an art exhibit in Cagayan De Oro City. Since then, he has tried pursuing his passion for painting. Finally, in 2017, with no formal training, he then started creating art full time. A principal theme in his artworks is focused on the sensual nature of art, depicting social realities and the diverse culture and colorful scenery of Mindanao. Growing up in an island municipality in the south exposed him with the different day to day activities of the Tausug, Jama Mapun and the Sama Badjao tribe. He tries to use it as his inspiration and express these elements in his works using oil and acrylic paint. Joeff‘s signature pieces includes “Manghahabi Series” and “Bangkang Papel”. He hopes that through his paintings, people will realize that Mindanao is not all about war and conflict but a place abundant with rich and colorful traditions.
